Spooktacular Success: Don Perry’s Garage Hosts “Summerween” Market

What started as an unconventional idea in April has transformed into a thriving monthly event series for one local business. Don Perry, third-generation owner of Perry’s Garage, hosted a Halloween-themed “Summerween” outdoor market this past Saturday—proving community spirit and small business ingenuity can go hand in hand.
After relocating the family business—which spent 40 years operating in Fort Worth—to its current site, Perry was determined to make a positive impact locally. In his view, the previous operation at the location had left behind a troubled reputation, and Perry wanted to show neighbors firsthand that his garage was built on transparency, trust, and community connection.
“Everyone said it wouldn’t work,” Perry shared. “But I put it on Facebook, and over 60 people said it sounded like fun. I thought I would throw it against the wall and see if it sticks.”
The risk quickly paid off. The concept launched earlier this summer with a “Christmas in July” theme—marking the shop’s first themed market. Interest grew rapidly from just 10 vendors at the start to a steady lineup of around 45 local vendors selling handcrafted goods, art, and unique wares.
While Saturday’s heat was intense—leaving Perry unsure if another market will take place next month—the success of the series makes it clear that more community events are on the horizon for the garage.
“I didn’t think it would work out here, but here we are,” Perry said. “This is a real thing! It has truly been a blessing.”
