City of Burleson Names Future Community Park “Burleson Legacy Park”

Posted on May 08, 2026

The city of Burleson has officially named its future community park at the intersection of Hulen Street and Alsbury Boulevard as Burleson Legacy Park, following a community-driven naming process and formal action by City Council.

City Council directed the name on October 20, 2025, after reviewing community input and discussing the long-term vision for the park.

The naming process began in May 2025, when city staff worked with Council to develop an approach that prioritized community engagement. Residents were invited to submit potential names through a public survey open from August 6 through August 20, 2025, which received 230 responses. Additional suggestions were collected through public comments to ensure broad participation.

Many submissions reflected a desire to honor Burleson’s history, people, and long-term contributions to the community. Based on that input, City Council selected the name Burleson Legacy Park, recognizing both the city’s past and its future.

Burleson Legacy Park is designed to reflect the people, stories and shared experiences that have shaped Burleson, creating a place that will continue bringing the community together for generations to come.

The park was identified as a priority project in the city’s 2019 Parks Master Plan, with property acquisition completed in February 2023 to preserve the site for future recreational use.

Development of Burleson Legacy Park will occur in phases. Phase I will establish core infrastructure and amenities, including the construction of three softball fields, parking, trail connections and site development. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2026, with a target opening in late summer 2027.

Future phases will expand the park with additional athletic fields, sport courts and other community amenities. Phase II is anticipated to include a nature-themed playscape, partially funded through a $750,000 grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, supporting inclusive and nature-based recreation opportunities.

Burleson Legacy Park is envisioned as a premier destination within the city’s park system, designed to serve a growing community through a unique blend of nature preservation and active recreational experiences.
