In the heart of Old Town Burleson, Mr. Henry’s Ice Cream hosted a ribbon-cutting for its current establishment this past Friday, September 11th.

Back in May of 2024, Mr. Henry’s Real Ice Cream opened its doors to customers here in Burleson and became the first New Zealand-style ice cream in all of DFW. The ribbon-cutting ceremony commemorates with honoring the team that came before and during the first year of business. 

Rather than using just standardized flavoring, Mr. Henry’s Ice Cream uses real fruit as an add-in to its recipe, displaying a unique quality compared to other ice cream establishments in the Burleson area. From signature scoops to beverages of any kind, this “premium” ice cream is said to provide a delightful experience for any visitor.

“I just love Mr. Henry’s Ice Cream! I’d have to say my favorite flavor is definitely the Hokey Pokey; I find myself getting it every time I go!” 

Sylvia Calvillo, a Burleson resident and avid customer of Mr. Henry’s Real Ice Cream, present at the ceremony: “I was walking around Old Town Burleson and saw this event about to go on; I had to be there!”

Originally, Mr. Henry’s was founded by Henry Lazcano. By noticing a gap in the dessert scene of Texas, Lazcano used New Zealand berry farms to import what we now know as the many flavors on the menu. 

With specialized machinery, it grew from a small business into the shop on the corner next to The Porch.

The newest owners, Rachel Anderson and Sarah Block-Hererra, acquired the establishment back in August of 2025. Describing their main goal as “bringing our community together through the joy of ice cream, one scoop or swirl at a time.” Not just with flavor, but by creating a place where families and even pets can come back time and time again.

“We are incredibly thankful for our friends, family, and community who continually support Mr. Henry’s Real Ice Cream,” says Co-owner Rachel Anderson. “As business owners [Sarah], we’re proud to be part of Burleson, and we look forward to building lasting relationships and spreading joy through ice cream for years to come.”

Now, this woman-owned parlor welcomes ice cream fans of all kinds to celebrate the team’s continuous effort. Mixing great service with ice cream for residents of Burleson alike. Ultimately, they’ve been able to extend their work to small and large events, catering custom ice cream for any function that is eager for a sweet treat. 

They’ve said they’ll launch a fundraiser later this month for the local community [Burleson] and nonprofit organizations in the surrounding area, so be sure to watch for details.
