BURLESON, TX — Managing rapid community growth while balancing resident quality of life took center stage at the August 17 Burleson City Council meeting. Council members addressed a packed agenda ranging from major development applications and multimillion-dollar park investments to public safety upgrades and individual honors for standout public servants.

Honoring Local Heroes—Two and Four-Legged

The meeting opened on a celebratory note as City Council officially recognized Events Supervisor Kylie Lopez as the Employee of the 2nd Quarter for 2026. Lopez was praised for her dedicated efforts in organizing community-wide events that bring Burleson residents together.

In keeping with local tradition, council members also spotlighted a different kind of dedicated community member: Chunk, a one-year-old Catahoula Leopard Dog mix, who was named the Adoptable Pet of the Quarter.

Development and Zoning Decisions

As Burleson continues to attract commercial and residential development, council members carefully evaluated several key land-use requests:

6885 County Road 518: Council approved a zoning ordinance change request covering approximately 56.36 acres, shifting the property from Agricultural (A) to Planned Development (PD). However, council added key stipulations to protect local interests: a concept plan must be approved by council before any building permits are issued, allowable by-right uses include a logistics facility, and data centers or data processing facilities are explicitly prohibited.

9028 County Road 1019: Members approved a rezoning request for approximately 32.3 acres, transitioning the parcel from Agricultural and Planned Development to a Multiple-Family Dwelling District (MF2).

ETJ Petition Held: No action was taken on a petition seeking release from the City of Burleson extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ) for roughly 10 acres located at 3005 W. FM 917.

Investing in Parks and Infrastructure

Major progress was made on signature community amenities. Council approved a $9.37 million contract (with a $937,000 contingency for a total of $10.3 million) with Millis Development and Construction for Phase 1 of Burleson Legacy Park. Additionally, council authorized the Phase One Community Park and Trail Plan for Chisholm Summit alongside associated economic development agreements.

Council also authorized key financial instruments, approving the issuance of Series 2026 Combination Tax and Limited Surplus Revenue Certificates of Obligation as well as General Obligation Refunding and Improvement Bonds to fund ongoing city improvements.

Public Safety

Addressing emergency service capacity, council approved a $1.07 million amendment to the Guaranteed Maximum Price contract with Byrne Construction Services for the ongoing expansion and remodeling of the Burleson Police Headquarters.
